Design Rationale
Initially the Delta School District (SD37) commissioned Thinkspace Architecture (formerly GHMA) to design a modular based facility for what is now known as Delta Community College. Due to financial and scheduling considerations this project evolved into being a purpose-built and permanent wood frame facility. With over 1406 sq m. Delta Community College has 10 classrooms of varying sizes, a daycare facility for 20 plus children, student lounge, staff washrooms, staff lounge, storage spaces and a computer work area lit with daylight coming from two generously sized skylights that offer natural light to the users and staff. With this facility being the first post-secondary institution in the Corporation of Delta’s boundaries students of all ages can now have a more convenient option for fulfilling their training and educational goals.
My Role...
As an intern architect at Thinkspace Architecture, I was responsible for the production and coordination with the client and consultants of the architectural working drawings for building permit submission as well as Issued for Construction drawings. Coordination continued through construction administration and shop drawing review
